A fluid leak coming from a semi trailer that closed the U.S. 35 ramps to Interstate 75 South and prompted a hazmat investigation was determined to be non-harmful, according to the Dayton Fire Department.

Crews first arrived at the scene around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. Members from the fire department, Dayton Regional HazMat team, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and Public Utilities Commission of Ohio responded.

Testing done by the fire department and hazmat team determined the leaking fluid was primarily water and was not harmful, according to the fire department. A cleanup contractor was called to offload the leaking product and all other materials on the trailer.

The leak was reportedly the result of a sudden weight shift in the trailer caused by rapid breaking by the semi truck driver.

No one was injured during the incident.

The U.S. 35 east and west ramps to I-75 south were closed for more than three hours Tuesday as crews tested the fluid and cleared the scene. The ramps reopened around 1:20 p.m., according to the Dayton Police Department.
